Department of Psychological Methodology
As an empirical science, psychology uses a broad repertoire of different methods to gain insights into human experience and behaviour.
Psychological methodology deals in particular with the application and (further) development of methods that are necessary in the entire psychological research process. This includes, among other things, procedures for the formation of theories and hypotheses, different research designs (experiments, cross-sectional and longitudinal studies), different data collection procedures (e.g. self-report, external reports, psychophysiological procedures), statistical-mathematical methods for the description and analysis of data, as well as procedures for the critical assessment, quality assurance, and reproducibility of empirical results.
Psychological methodology is on the one hand an independent basic subject and on the other hand an important link to all other basic and applied subjects of psychology.
